Essential Duas for Hajj & Umrah

Introduction

Umrah is a sacred pilgrimage to the holy city of Makkah, performed by millions of Muslims around the world. Unlike Hajj, Umrah is not obligatory but holds immense spiritual value and can be performed at any time of the year.

🕋 Step-by-Step Guide to Performing Umrah

🌍 1. Preparation Before the Journey

  • Make Niyyah (intention) sincerely for the sake of Allah.

  • Ensure all documents, visas, and bookings are ready.

  • Learn the Umrah rituals properly (or keep this guide handy).

  • Trim nails, remove unwanted hair, and perform Ghusl (ritual bath) before wearing Ihram.

🕊 2. Enter into Ihram

For men: Wear two white, unstitched cloths.

  • For women: Wear modest, loose-fitting clothes (not specific color, no covering of face/hands).

  • Pray two Rakats of Salah with the intention of Ihram.

  • Say the Niyyah for Umrah:

🛬 3. Travel to Makkah

Remain in the state of Ihram.

  • Continue reciting Talbiyah.

  • Upon reaching Makkah, go to your hotel to rest if needed — but do not delay Umrah unnecessarily.

🕋 4. Tawaf (Circling the Kaaba)

Begin Tawaf at the Black Stone (Hajr Aswad).

  • Circle the Kaaba 7 times counter-clockwise.

  • For men: Do Ramal (brisk walk) in first 3 rounds.

  • Ensure you are in Wudu (ablution).

  • After 7 rounds, go behind Maqam Ibrahim, if possible, and pray 2 Rakats of Salah.

💧 5. Drink Zamzam Water

  • Drink Zamzam water and make du’a.

  • You may also wipe it on your face and body.

🏃‍♂️ 6. Sa’i (Between Safa and Marwah)

  • Go to Safa hill, face the Kaaba, and make du’a.

  • Walk from Safa to Marwah, this is 1 round.

  • Continue until you complete 7 rounds (ending at Marwah).

  • Men should jog lightly between the green markers.

✂️ 7. Halq or Taqsir (Shaving or Trimming Hair)

  • For men: Shave (Halq) or trim (Taqsir) the hair.

  • For women: Cut a small portion (1 inch) from the end of their hair.

  • After this, your Umrah is complete and you exit Ihram.

✅ Umrah Completed!

You can now change into regular clothes and engage in other acts of worship like extra prayers, Qur’an reading, or another Umrah if you wish later (with a new Ihram from a Miqat like Masjid Aisha).
